Sportstech Predictions for 2022

While the Last Couple of Years Have Brought Innovation, 2022 Will Deliver Evolution

Ringing in the new year with self-made promises to be a new you? Chances are you’ve already worked yourself into a frenzy this morning, decked out in fresh duds that make you feel unstoppable. Outside of the modern gym you contemplate getting the latest smart watch to deploy self-wellness surveillance and question if your new gym shoes will break in juuuust right.

Thinking about the big game tonight? How are you going to watch? To bundle or not to bundle, that is the question. Will you go to a game this year and if “yes”, how will you pay? If a paper ticket is something for the Smithsonian, what does the latest up-to-the-minute merch craze consist of? Is it digital or are physical goods still a thing?

FUTRSPRT is here to predict five sportstech trends that will begin to boil in 2022. Enjoy.

№1 — The Return to the Gym… Eventually

Odds are by now there’s a freshly-minted makeshift home gym in the corner somewhere. Doubling down, there’s a subscription or two to the sportstech-app-de-jour as well. While those 2022 New Year’s resolutions remain top of mind, the 2021 determination is collecting dust.

Why?

Enter the pandemic… again.

№2 — 1:1 Custom Workout Apparel

Look, it’s 2022. There’s no need to get something out of the box only to realize it’s juuuust not right about six miles into a scheduled 15.

Everything is customizable these days if you look closely enough.

FUTRSPRT has tested custom-fit goods in the past and haven’t been disappointed yet.

THEMAGIC5™ swim goggles and Casca’s shoes w/ 3D printed insoles are the real deal.

Need the perfect fit, do some digging, the technology is out there.

№3 — Virtual Stadiums Appear in the Metaverse

Don’t be surprised when virtual leagues begin to appear w/ the stadiums doubling as a town square. Some of these leagues will be backed by the pro leagues we know now. Others will be built and backed by DAOs.(Decentralized Autonomous Organizations)

Seems crazy to many but let’s watch this unfold carefully.

№4 — AR/VR Headsets are Here to Stay

Some will rip this one to shreds, declaring that the headset itself just “isn’t natural.”

Don’t be afraid to take the dive, there’s a future stable ecosphere/economy inside.

№5–5G Will Be the Biggest Disappointment in 2022

2022 represents the nth year we’ve heard 5G propped up as the next next big thing. Like recent years, we’ll be disappointed again.

While 5G may truly introduce itself to the masses in 2022 it won’t be until late Q3(think NFL season). Until then expect plenty of empty promises of what connectivity should look like. Until then, grin and bear it.
