Three Practical Lessons I Learned From My Grandfather Long After He Passed Away

Real wisdom transcends time and death.

My grandfather and grandmother, before I was born.

I write a lot about my grandfather partly because I miss him so much that it is a way of keeping him alive. And partly because he is, without a doubt, the wisest being I have ever known.

And I know many of us to think that way about our grandparents. But in my case, it’s not romantic. I know that my grandfather was an extraordinary being.

Growing up, he was as brave as Rockefeller when he had no money.

He was as far-sighted and extra-intelligent during his maturity as Machiavelli or Napoleon.

And when he became old, if you approached him, he would give off as much light as a Buddha.

Many of you will think I am exaggerating. But my grandfather was born during the famine in a village in Castile in Spain. And he managed to survive, come out of the civil war alive, have seven sons and a daughter (my mother), many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and live to be over 90 years old with enough in the bank to live two or three more lives.

And that was not by luck. So he did it with cunning and tenacity.

And today, talking to my mother, she told me a couple of anecdotes about my grandfather, from which I have again learned two valuable lessons, and I want to share them with you.

Let’s begin.

My grandmother told my mother that my grandfather was working in the fields when my mother was about to be born on August 12, 1959, And a guy called Carlos, one of the family friends found out and went to look for him on a motorcycle.

When he found out, he wanted to go running to see the birth of his daughter. And according to the story, the foreman ordered him to finish his workday.

And he told him no, that he was going to see the birth of his daughter.
The guy saw in my grandfather’s eyes the fire of a man in love and did not dare to say no, and my grandfather went on his friend’s motorcycle to his house to get home in time to see my mother’s birth.
