Are You Attached To Your Pain?

Is your past a huge part of your identity?

We all go through hard times during our lives. Some people face tougher times, whilst others have found they haven’t faced as many hardships. But regardless we all will come across challenges in our lives.

Obstacles offer us the ability to grow and learn from them and apply them to any future hurdles we may face in life. But whether we choose this path is up to us. We can’t always control everything around us, but we can control our response and how we move forward from that point.

So what happens when we choose to move on but carry the baggage from our pain with us? What happens when we view our life through the lens of our trauma?

This doesn’t necessarily mean that we didn’t learn from the painful experience, but this does suggest that carrying this weight has become a large part of our identity.

Making our pain such a huge part of our identity causes us to overlook all the things that are going well and fixate on all the things that are going wrong and this stops us from truly moving on.

I used to always think of myself as unlucky. This was something I carried around with me for years. I thought that because I was born on the 13th naturally I was unlucky.
