Any Fuel Left in The Tank?

Me neither.

As of 30 January 2022, I would have been working from home for 682 days. We are now in year 3 of this pandemic. This bloody pandemic. Sorry, I’m just frustrated like the rest of you. I’ve become so numb, the daily deaths no longer affect me. It used to scare me to the point, I would have daily panic attacks.

I digress.

People no longer have fuel in the tank anymore. I mean it. We are all physically, emotionally, and mentally exhausted. It doesn’t matter what your situation is. You can be a single parent, a fully functioning couple, a student, a retiree, remote worker, essential worker, single, in a relationship, and so on. Humanity as a whole is exhausted. I don’t think there is any fuel left in our tanks. Even with two weeks’ holidays, even with some time off, even though we are spending more time than ever at home, even though we are doing what’s best for humanity. It is all still so exhausting.

I am sure I am not the only one who is tired of the news. I mean all the News. Not just Covid related. I have lost interest in world news as a whole. I am unable to comprehend any more chaos, to be honest. Everywhere you look, it’s just chaos erupting or almost happening. It is so distressing. I mean, if adults feel this way, can you imagine how children must be feeling? Poor parents have to put up a positive front for their children. That is also tiring. How long can we put up this façade?

People are mad, sad, and mourning the loss of a loved one. It is a difficult period for humanity. You don’t know what someone else is going through. Everyone is struggling in one-way shape or form. As a society, we are taught to be there for one another. To be a community and help each other when we fall. But with restrictions and everyone inside, what happened to the community? We have all become so self-centered from fear that many people are not venturing out anymore. The ones who struggle are now on their own.

There has been a major shift in society. The distressing images in the news, the overall mood in society, the grim reality of this pandemic has taken a toll on humanity in general. We are not the same. We cannot go back to our old selves. Our personality has changed, our way of thinking has changed, our values have changed, our goals…

Amen.

The oak seats around us ache and moan with each body that gives to them. The edges of the pews were rounded once. Now they’re jagged and chipped raw in more places than not. The unforgiving edges…
