Trends in Website Design

It is important to pay attention to trends in order to stay relevant and compete with other websites. To make sure I included some trends in my page I researched what trends are popluar now in 2018.

Illustrated Websites

Using Illustrations in website design is a perfect way to add personality and add a playfulness to the design. It also helps to makethe website feel more unique and stand out. Illustrations are perfect for making something serious seem more approachable and less overwhelming fora user. There will most likely be an illustration style to match the tone of your webpage.

A good example of this is the website ‘Pitch’. The use of illustration gives a warm tone to the website. This creates a friendly user freindly site,making it see easy and simple for users.

Interaction, Animations and Gifs

Animations and gifs have become even more popular in this last year. However when considering using these features it is important not to go too overboard as that could be too busy on the eye. Less is more with animations.

Broken Grid Layouts

Grids have always been essential when planning layouts, especially for web design. Before we used grids to add structured and clean aesthetics to the page. However recently we have begun to see a rise in the broken grid trend. This helps to make the text seem like it is flating across the page, adding more visual interest. It can also be helpful when pairing text with imagery.

Mobile Designs

Mobile browsing has overtaken the laptops and desktops and it is important for designers to understand this. You cant fit a lot in the small screen so you may need to reconsider the sub menus and replace it with a long scrolling site or add icons.

Big Type

Type has always been a key tool in design to help make a statment and also evoke emotions. Large letters, contrasting sans serif and serif type all help create bold layouts, this should therefore keep the user intrested and reading the website.

Asymmetrical Layouts

With responsive design becoming popular aftter 2010. The way we layout out websites changed after making it easier to design for all devices. The use of big text and asymmetry has become more popular in oder to create more pace and excitement on the page.
