Why plastic bottles are harming our environment.

Before I begin writing this story I going to tell you some facts on plastic bottles ruining the environment and to the oceans, and the ground water which as has become toxic to our drinking water. I am going to show you a video that will demonstrate what I am going talk about.

Based off the article and the video that I was able to find that plastic bottle are destroying our environment because they disposing of the plastic bottles the right way. The use of plastic bottles has changed over time since the 1980s “when the plastic bottles of the screwy people were just walking yelling into those huge Walkie-Talkie things called cellphones, the different plastic bottles were being lined up next to the Fanta’s and the Tabs”( Schriever). The industry that is not just intelligent it is actually our wallets in which is making us the most intelligent when it comes to the water bottle industry. What I think about our environment being impacted by the people that are just wasting their plastic bottles or not even disposing of them very well. Based on the facts that I was able to find in the article that “there is about 50 million plastic bottles that are being consumed every year and 30 million of those bottles are being consumed in the US alone”(Schriever). By disposing of these plastic bottles it help out our environment will be just as clean as before the plastic bottles were ruining our drinking water that we get from the ground and we don’t want those toxic types of chemicals getting into our drinking water.

When reading the facts on how big our plastic bottle industry it is staggering how plastic we are using every second and just how much plastic bottles we are consuming each year. When we are consuming the plastic bottles we are using about 60% of the world’s water bottles, which could be equivalent to about 4.5% of the world’s population. Using plastic bottles can mostly help out the environment but it can also help out the US economy and also the world’s economy. The amount of water bottles that “we are consuming every second is around 1,500 plastic just in the United States alone”(Schriever). At one point in the past five to six years there had been at it’s highest point just in water sales. “In 2011 there was around 9.1 billion water bottles that were being sold around the world”(Schriever) even in the US. The water bottles that were being sent or sold were around 29.1 plastic bottles that were being sold to each person around the world and even the US. It is was one of the highest sales and volume in history.

So how are these plastic bottles actually manufactured we are going to go back to the beginning of how these water or plastic bottles are actually created and what does it take to make one plastic bottle. At first in started out getting the oil into the company. Just to produce it will take about three times the volume of water just to be able one bottle of water and that actually counting from just filling up just one water bottle. Based on what “The Earth Policy Institute said that it factors the energy that it used to pump, process transport, and refrigerate a bottled water it is going to take about 50 million barrels of oil that is used every year”(Schriever). Seeing it from a human perspective that amount of oil is enough to just fuel up to one million cars on from around 2011. By using that amount of oil we can help maybe use less oil to make the water bottles but, also we won’t have to use that much oil just to be able one bottle and then shipping them out it would only make us want to spend more oil for every shipment instead of just trying to use less than 17 million barrels of oil each year just to produce the water bottles. By spending the money on the 17 million barrels of oil each year the people of the world aren’t even disposing of the water bottles the right way. I would say that this is having an impact on our economy and how much money we are spending each year on oil just to produce one water bottle or even one case of water bottles to be shipped out from where ever shipping to or from.

Through the environmental perspective or impact on how these water bottles are ending up in our oceans and what we can do to prevent that from happening. As humans we could keep on using these water bottles and never dispose of them so they don’t become toxic chemical to our oceans. “The PETs they are not biodegradable they are photo degrade which means that they are being broken down into smaller fragments over a certain period of time”(Schriever). Here is another interesting that you should know that for every square mile of the ocean there is about 46,000 pieces of small plastic items that are still floating around. So for the people that aren’t getting rid of their water bottles or disposing them you need to start doing it, it is killing our beautiful ocean animals which is by leaving the water bottles in the oceans they have toxic chemicals that are getting into the ocean when they are being broken down into small fragments like what I recently said in the paragraph so STOP DOING IT!!!
