My Journey in R
In the last 3 months, I have been learning about the intrinsics of R programming language and the use of R in data science. I would not say that I have developed a deep learning about the language but I have definitely realized why R is the go-to language for Data Science and Data Manipulation
I started with the basics of terminal and markdown. This quickly escalated to data extraction using RStudio. Special emphasis was put on using dplyr, teaching us how to wrangle data according to our will. I was really interested in the API assignment given to us in which we used the Google Civic API. We were taught to use a remote server by assigning us a UW Server and guiding us to make a weather report graph using really big datasets, processed using remote servers.
One of my favorite assignments was labeled “Collaboration”. We were split into groups of 4 and were required to write a program and calculate its executing speed on each of the team members PC, I realized the usefulness of GitHub through this assignment. Assignment 8 taught us how to use ShinyApp. We created an app about UFO sightings using the UFO dataset.
I am truly proud for my Final Project of INFO 201. My team used Machine Learning algorithm to segregate Iris Data(which have extensively used for the same purpose). It was fascinating to see how we can train a computer to start making meaningful assumptions based on statistics.
I am truly grateful I took this class. My TA Shiva was especially really helpful and always provided timely help. He was one of the best TA I ever had and maybe ever will.
